In 2020, 17-year-old Autumn Peltier took on an important job. She became the chief water protector for the Anishinabek Nation in Ontario, Canada. That means she fights to secure clean water for her community. For decades, First Nations communities across Canada have had to boil their drinking water to be sure it won’t make them sick.
In her new role, Autumn speaks to politicians about getting everyone clean drinking water. She protests construction projects and other actions that could pollute water supplies.
In 2018, Autumn spoke to the United Nations. “Now is the time to warrior up and stand for our planet,” she said.
