Ailbhe (AL-vuh) Keane has always loved decorating her sister Izzy’s wheelchair. Izzy has spina bifida, a condition that has reduced her feeling and movement from her waist down. “After Ailbhe decorated my wheelchair, I felt joyful and empowered,” says Izzy. That’s why, in 2016, the sisters created a company, Izzy Wheels, to provide people with wheel covers to style their chairs. Now they sell their covers to wheelchair users around the world!

The sisters want their covers to start conversations about living with disabilities. Sometimes people misunderstand others who look different from them. Conversations can promote understanding.

“By choosing their own designs, people can share a piece of their personality with the world,” says Ailbhe.
